In the past five years Teacherhorizons have placed a number of teachers at the International School of the Hague. Feedback has been resoundingly positive with a teacher recently saying:

“At ISH I always feel that as a teacher I am able to implement high quality teaching and learning, to try new things and to really make an impact on the school community. This is down to an excellent learning environment, supportive staff, and students who want to get involved.”

International School of the Hague

ISH is an outstanding school.  It has been fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and has been an IB school since 1986.  It’s a progressive school, committed to delivering the very best education possible to over 1,560 students aged between four and eighteen representing over 90 different nationalities.

The school has superb, state-of-the-art facilities in its modern purpose-built campus surrounded by green sports fields and trees.  It makes for an inspiring learning environment.  Among the facilities available are a 350 seat theatre, two full size gyms, libraries, conference rooms, outstanding sports facilities and an impressive music centre.

The Hague, Netherlands

The Netherlands is frequently rated highly as a place to live by expatriates.  The Hague is known as the city of Peace & Justice and is an appealing place to live with a stunning old city centre, welcoming locals (who speak very good English), a growing expat community (10% of the city population), excellent museums and markets, beautiful canals and parks for walks and cycling and a popular beach nearby. As Holland’s third largest city, you can get a sense of what is going on here: http://www.denhaag.nl/en.htm

The Hague also acts as a great transport hub with Amsterdam a mere 45 mins away, the International Airport is 30 mins away whilst Rotterdam is 25 mins away - all easily connected by train.

The Opportunity: benefits and further details

This position offers a generous package including a salary between €35,000 and €56,000 depending on your experience and qualifications.  For those people who meet the requirements as defined by the Dutch government, there is also tax relief on the first 30% of the salary, which lasts for a maximum of 8 years. There is a relocation allowance of approx €2,500, and a re-settling payment of approx €5,500. About The International School of the Hague - Secondary Campus

The International School of The Hague is a highly successful, innovative and dynamic school located in a state-of-the-art building in an area of natural beauty in the city of The Hague in The Netherlands (Kijkduin). The school is made up of a Primary School and a Secondary school, each receiving government funding as well as private fees as Dutch International Schools. The two schools work together as one school with a shared vision and mission as part of the Rijnlands Lyceum foundation. The whole school currently has around 2000 students (1400 in Secondary) with over 100 nationalities taught by teachers from around the world.

At ISH we inspire personal excellence by encouraging our students to be curious, connected and compassionate. We use student-led inquiry to develop curiosity in authentic and challenging contexts. Students learn to apply their knowledge and skills to deepen conceptual, disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding by making effective connections with other people and their ideas. Our students learn how to become compassionate and proactive global citizens through collaborative projects both in, and beyond, the classroom.

Teachers at ISH achieve these high standards by recognising that, like their students, they are lifelong learners who must continually reflect upon their own professional practice, as well as striving to be excellent role models for the ISH Community Profile.

The Hague is a beautiful city located behind the sand dunes and adjacent to miles of clean and attractive beaches. It is the only major city in the Netherlands that lies directly at the sea, and it is known as 'the largest village in Europe' although it continues to grow in size. It is the seat of Dutch government and home to the Royal Family. It has a beautiful historic city centre and numerous Pleins (squares) where one can sit out and enjoy a drink and a snack. The city has beautiful architecture, numerous canals and an excellent public transport system. One of the particular pleasures of living in The Hague is the opportunity to cycle through the sand dunes alongside the beach. There are also extensive cycling routes to explore. In fact, most of our staff cycle to school. The Hague has an excellent shopping centre and is one of the best cities in Europe for eating out. One of the more noticeable features of The Hague is the profusion of parks in the city. It is one of the greenest cities in Europe as well as being a safe, friendly and relaxing place to live.

If you are internationally-minded, permitted to work in the European Union and have the desire to help shape the exciting future of our school, we would love to hear from you.
