The International School of Riga is seeking an outstanding Biology/Science Teacher for a post commencing August 2018. The school provides high quality education from the ages of 2 to 18 and follows the IMYC in Grades 6-8, IGCSE in Grades 9-10 and AS/A Levels in Grades 11-12. In 2020 it is planned that the school will move to the International Baccalaureate Programme.

The successful candidate will need to have a diverse range of qualities, competencies, and experience:

  • BA Degree in Education or BA Degree with PGCE in Education and minimum of 2 years teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching (I)GCSE and AS/A Level or IBDP Biology.
  • Previous experience working with students whom English is not their first language.
  • Confidence in working with diverse students, differentiating and supporting individual needs.
  • Genuine respect and care for each individual student.
  • Strong collaboration with colleagues and partnerships with parents.
  • Flexibility and sense of initiative.
  • Familiarity with ISR's mission statement and readiness to embody each key phrase.
  • Active involvement in the school community beyond teaching responsibilities.

An ISR faculty member should be an outstanding teacher, motivator, learner, and communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills, and should be capable of preparing students for international programmes in a stimulating, challenging and well-organized learning environment. 

He/She should be able to provide professional expertise, high-quality teaching, and learning, make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning and achievement for all students.

About our school

Founded in 2001, ISR is a small not for profit school providing an internationally accredited education in English to both local and international students. The school currently caters for toddlers (age 2) to grade 12. Enrollment is currently more than 320 students, representing approximately 50+ nationalities. ISR is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Latvian Ministry of Education. Staff development

ISR has a dedicated staff of around 35 teaching and 20 support staff. Our staff members are devoted to their role in order to support students to achieve their best. 

ISR has a staff development programme and its focus is to develop teachers in various ways so they could continually strive for helping our students. Staff are committed to their own development and many take part in helping others to progress. 


Curriculum

The International School of Riga is an International Baccalaureate World School and Cambridge International Centre.  Primary school students study using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP).  Middle school students grades six to eight study using the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). Instruction is in English, and French and Latvian language are offered to students from Grades 1 through 6. High school students study two programs - Grades 9 and 10 the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Grades 11 and 12 Cambridge Advanced Level (A Level). English as a Second Language classes are offered to students whose native tongue is not English and need additional English support. ISR has a fully certified international teaching staff including specialist teachers for languages, physical education-swimming, art, music, IT. ISR has a rich and extensive extra-curricular programme including sporting, academic and creative activities.


Location

From August 2018 - 2020 ISR operates on located on 2 different campuses:

  • Kalnciema iela 118 - preschool, kindergarten and primary school

It’s a spectacular 100 years old school building built in a Neo-Renaissance style with lots of beautiful outdoor space. The building is located in the residential area 10 minutes drive away from the Riga City Centre and it has excellent communication links to the other parts of Riga.

  • Vesetas iela 9 - secondary school

This location is in the city centre and in a 3 - 10 minutes walk you will be able to access parks, shops, cafes, restaurants and public transportation.
