Tormead is a thriving UK independent day school for girls, currently educating 730 pupils. Situated on two adjacent sites either side of a residential road in Guildford, our Junior and Senior schools offer girls an excellent education from Reception “all through” to Sixth Form. We are very proud of our school and its ethos of encouraging each individual pupil to develop her talents to the fullest in a happy, caring and supportive environment. Our academic expectations are high, and we value our students’ impressive record of examination successes and university places. We are equally proud of their many other cultural and sporting achievements and their varied contributions to the life of the side community.

We are now keen to identify an outstanding Bursar with significant financial, commercial, leadership skills and experience who will partner with the Head and the Governors in leading the next chapter of the school’s development to expand and improve its educational offering, estate, facilities and services over the next five years and beyond.

We believe this is an exciting role at a forward-thinking school. We embrace the benefits of EdTech and are proud to be certified as an Apple Distinguished School. We are in a robust financial position, with a strong balance sheet and have generated a healthy surplus in each of the last 10 years. These surpluses are ongoingly reinvested in the school estate and facilities. We completed a substantial £12 million building programme, opened in 2015, and we intend to begin the next chapter of our development master plan in 2023.

The Bursar role is a senior non-teaching leadership role in the school. With responsibility for Finance, IT, HR, Compliance, Company Secretarial, Estates, Facilities and Services, it is wide in scope and remit. It is both challenging and rewarding. We are seeking an exceptional general manager with strong prior financial and commercial experience. We hope to find a collaborative team leader with demonstrable strategic thinking and project management skills, an ability to lead and develop diverse teams with emotional intelligence, and an ability to juggle many different projects and priorities.
