 About The Job

To work with the Assistant Principal and Programme Leaders to plan and organise specified modules ensuring choices of presentation and assessment materials meet the needs of learners.

The Unit Leader role has overall responsibility for developing teaching materials for the relevant module with the support and guidance of the Assistant Principal and Programme Leaders.

To report regularly to the relevant Cohort Leader on the welfare and performance of learner cohorts including retention, progress, achievement and completion.

Duties Include

  • Coordinate the academic team members’ activities to design the unit handbook and assignment.
  • Ensure the unit handbooks, assignment briefs and contextualised marking schemes are internally verified and approved by the Assistant Principal and / or Programme Leaders and uploaded onto the VLE.
  • Share expertise, knowledge, good practice and teaching materials with members of the teaching team ensuring learners receive a consistently high level of delivery experience.
  • Develop high standard teaching materials relevant to the subject area, in association with the course team and the Assistant Principal.

Teaching duties remain central to the role of Unit Leader and Unit Leaders will be expected to undertake the full range of duties of a Lecturer (HE)

Teaching, Learning & Assessment
  • To deliver high quality teaching on a range of modules as appropriate in an area of the curriculum.
  • To develop schemes of work and learning materials in line with course aims, objectives, mode of assessment and accreditation.
  • To contribute effectively to teamwork and ensure learners are assessed in accordance with the relevant awarding bodies.

Supporting Students

  • To take part in enrolment and induction activities.
  • To act as a Personal Tutor for taught units. To meet students regularly on an individual basis to discuss academic progress and to support students in their choice of progression routes. To deal with those students who are not performing to required standards in line with College procedures.
  • To identify students requiring extra support and refer them to Cohort Leaders or Student Welfare for appropriate support.
  • To support students with resubmission requirements.

Essential Administration

  • To keep accurate and updated unit and student records, including registers, reports, including student assessment and achievement records.
  • To provide accurate course and student information as required by the College.
  • To monitor student attendance and timekeeping by ensuring that registers are completed daily.

General

  • To be aware of the principles of safeguarding children and young people as they apply to the role with the College.  Actively promote and implement the College’s Safeguarding, well-being and PREVENT Policies.
  • To be involved in College staff development and training schemes and participate in Personal Development Review procedures within the College.
  • To adhere to the College's Equality and Diversity Scheme with respect to staff and students. 

Essential Skills

  • Degree Level 7 qualified in the relevant subject area.
  • Teaching qualification, e.g.  PGCHE. Candidates who do not have this qualification will, as a condition of employment, be required to obtain a teaching qualification, at level 7, within 2 years of the appointment date.
  • Relevant and recent industry experience.
  • Successful experience of designing and delivering learning in relevant teaching/vocational areas.

Our History

Regent Group was established in 2000 by Selva Pankaj, Tharshiny Pankaj and Senior Selvanayagam.

Regent Independent College was the very first division within Regent Group established that same year offering full-time courses for Year 10, Year 11, AS and A2 as well as intensive one year courses for GCSE and A-Level.

As it established both its place in the local community and a favourable reputation, it grew in student numbers and an interest in part-time provision evolved with enquiring parents.

So it was that in 2000 Regent Learning Centre was established in Harrow, offering programmes of supplementary tuition for students Year 7 and above in English and Maths. Demand led to Science and ICT being added to the suite of subjects on offer. Later, primary tuition for students aged 4 upwards in literacy and numeracy was introduced along with programmes of preparation for entrance exams for independent and grammar schools. Since then, further centres have been opened in Edgware and Southall.

In 2004, Regent expanded into childcare with the opening of Regent Nursery. It currently offers childcare for children up to 5 years, on both a full-time and part-time basis.

By 2009, Regent Independent College was thriving and on the basis of its success, Regent Group made a second addition to its sixth form provision and opened up Burlington College.

In 2010 based on demand for alternative courses, Regent diversified into the provision of Higher National Diploma courses and thus Regent College Higher Education was born and has since blossomed.

With a view to a diversification of the courses that it could offer to adult learners, after Regent was approved for entry on the Register of Training Organisations in 2014, it established its Regent Skills Training division, which is currently working with the well-known and major training provider 5E to offer a range of courses. In the same year, Wembley English Academy was launched which specialises in English courses.

iRegent, a blended learning based tuition service for children of both primary and secondary ages was launched in Regent Learning Centre Harrow in 2015.

Regent Leadership is Regent Group’s newest venture offering executive level education, supporting learning through coaching and providing highly personalised programmes to meet the needs and aspirations of senior level clients.
