This role is term time plus 10 days; however, for the right candidate, we would consider a full-time contract.

The Harris Federation is a successful, highly collaborative and enterprising group of academies in and around London. Our network of academies is setting standards of excellence through an experienced and supportive approach with the aim that every child in London can have the best possible education, enabling them to fulfil their potential and decide their own future. The focus of the Harris Federation is on transforming some of the most challenging schools in London into exceptional places of learning. That means that when you work at a Harris academy, you are playing a part in something very important – giving children the freedom and the opportunities to choose their own futures.

Your role:

You will be responsible for the operational and line management of the Federation Careers Advice Team.  You will be an enthusiastic team leader, ensuring that you and the team provide a comprehensive careers guidance programme to all students at Harris.  You will lead the team and it’s role within the Federation which includes negotiating careers provision in our existing and new academies, producing curriculum materials, planning and delivering bespoke careers events, tracking and managing destinations and supporting the Federation in devising new initiatives and activities which benefit our students.

Although based at the Harris Federation offices close to East Croydon Station (with fast access to central London and the M25), the role will mostly be located within the academies.

What we are looking for:

  • Diploma in Careers Guidance or Qualification in Careers Guidance at QCF Level 7
  • Experience of managing a team, ideally a careers guidance team
  • Experience of successfully motivating students to plan and achieve their career goals
  • A good communicator with the ability to develop strong working relationships with a wide range of people

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
