Job overview

 The Mount School York is a thriving boarding and day community set in 16 acres of beautiful grounds located ten minutes’ walk from York’s historic city centre. The Mount is a school for girls aged 2 to 18 and boys aged 2 to 11.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Caretaker/Driver to Driver to join an experienced facilities management team. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Caretaker/Driver will have responsibility for security, health and safety monitoring, porterage and general caretaking duties. Skills in a particular trade would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of caretaking, preferably within a school environment. A valid, full UK driving licence is an essential requirement, with D1 entitlement (or PCV endorsement) and held for at least two years, as the role includes driving a 17-seat minibus every morning and afternoon. 

Working hours will vary but will usually be Monday to Friday, totalling 37.5 hours per week. The Caretaker/Driver will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the School and must be willing to work split shifts during school term-time, occasional evenings and weekends and to be on call as part of the keyholders’ rota.

It is essential that the Caretaker/Driver lives very locally to the School. If required, on-site accommodation can be provided in a self-contained 2-bed flat for which an adjustment in salary will be made.
