Job overview

We require an enthusiastic and suitably qualified person for this student support focused position in our College. This is a part time, fixed term position commencing in July and concluding in December 2020. The hours for this role will be 24 hours over 4 days (Monday to Thursday).

The School Chaplain operates as a member of a team to assist school communities to look after the personal needs of students through the provision of general spiritual and personal advice. This can include support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships and spiritual issues; the provision of student welfare; and enhancing engagement with the broader community. The School Chaplain contributes to the pastoral care of students and related wellbeing services offered by the school. The role works closely with students, particularly those new to the College, and those with EALD or refugee backgrounds.

The successful applicant will be required to collaborate closely with others in our Pastoral and Support teams, including the Assistant Principal Religious Education and Assistant Principal Wellbeing, to promote and develop student wellbeing, emotional resilience, positive relationships and a sense of community.

Applicants are required to possess either:
• A Certificate IV in Youth Work; or
• A Certificate IV in Pastoral Care; or
• An equivalent qualification.

St John Fisher College is a Catholic secondary college in the Mercy tradition offering a contemporary education for young women. Administered by Brisbane Catholic Education the College currently has 556 students enrolled. To be successful in this role you will:

  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education;
  • currently hold or be eligible to hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card; and
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment.

  Commencing 13 July 2020

Position Tenure:   Fixed Term

Weeks Worked:  School term weeks only (holidays unpaid)

Tenure Duration (If Fixed Term):   July to December 2020

Total Paid Hours (per wk) & Days Required:   24 hours/week - 6 hrs/day Monday to Thursday

Salary Level, Range or Hourly Rate:   School Officer Level 5 - $31.91 per hour

Employment Conditions:   Diocesan Catholic Education Employing Authorities in Queensland Single Interest Agreement 2015-2019


This position involves working with children.  The appointment of successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory employment screening for child related employment in accordance with the law.
