We are currently looking for a Chemistry Teacher to join our school in Teignmouth, Devon.

About Trinity School

Trinity School is situated in 14 acres overlooking the town of Teignmouth and Lyme Bay. The site has accommodated centres of Christian-based education since 1879. Trinity School was formed in 1979 and is a joint Roman Catholic and Anglican foundation. The school became part of the Alpha Schools group in November 2019. The present school numbers almost 240 pupils, with a fairly even split between the Preparatory Department (ages 3 to 11 years) and the Senior Department (ages 11 to 19 years), of whom about 35 are boarders. The Head, Mr Lawrence Coen, is a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and the Society of Heads.

The Headmaster is responsible to the Governors for the overall successful running of the School. He is assisted by the School Management Team (SMT), namely the Deputy Head, the Head of the Preparatory Department and four Assistant Heads.

Contract: Monday to Friday, Full Time, Permanent

 About the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • To deliver KS3 Science, GCSE and A level Chemistry.
  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated curriculum for students, and support a designated curriculum area as appropriate for KS3 to Sixth Form.
  • To teach 54 periods per cycle (ppc); a cycle is 60 (50 minute) lessons over a 2 week timetable, do duties and offer at least two after school clubs per week.
  • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
  • To contribute to raising standards of student attainment
  • To set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline.
  • To ensure that the current requirements of examination boards are met.
  • To contribute to the extra-curricular timetable and duties of the Senior Department as directed by SMT.
  • To take at least two after school clubs per week.
  • Part of this role will involve safeguarding responsibilities including the reporting of any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Team

As this position requires you

  • To be a specialist in the subject with the ability to teach KS3 Science, GCSE and A level Chemistry.
  • Excellent classroom practitioner who can lead by example.
  • A passion for education and an awareness of wider educational issues.
  •  Excellent organisation skills with the proven ability to see things through to completion.
  •  Excellent communication and critical reflective skills, understanding the importance of listening.
  •  Collaborative working practices developed and demonstrable, with the ability to manage change and work under the pressure of changing circumstances.
  •  An approachable and supportive disposition, so that pupils are confident that their concerns will be heard and will receive sympathetic treatment.
  •   Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to sustain effective relationships on behalf of the School, both internally and externally.

Trinity School is an independent, co-educational, all-through school for children aged 3-19 years old. It is situated in Teignmouth, Devon, and has approximately 490 day and boarding pupils. Bursaries and scholarships are available.
