Job overview

Royal SpringBoard is the UK’s leading charity providing life-transforming opportunities on full bursaries in over 100 state and independent boarding schools for children from disadvantaged or vulnerable backgrounds. Created from the 2017 merger of Royal National Children’s Foundation (RNCF) and The SpringBoard Bursary Foundation (SpringBoard), we are an influential force in advancing social mobility. Working with schools, local government and charities, we identify young people who would benefit most from the positive impact of a boarding school environment and we also place and support Looked After Children through our work with local authorities. We also set required standards for the pastoral care for those schools in which children are placed by Royal SpringBoard.

We now seek an exceptional leader to succeed Ian Davenport who will step down in May 2020 after seven years of outstanding service. His successor will inherit a thriving organisation with significant ambition for its future, with plans for 1,000 beneficiaries in schools by 2025 and several other strategic opportunities to expand and deepen its impact.

An authentic advocate for the transformative power of boarding education and pastoral care, the successful candidate will inspire and engage a wide-range of stakeholders from children, parents, Charity partner Heads, Heads of schools, leaders of school associations, civil servants and politicians to donors and members of the trustee and advisory boards. He or she will bring a strong understanding of partnership-working, and the strategic skills to lead the development of a small organisation with a large, national reach. Low ego leadership and comfort with working as part of a small team are essential, and whilst direct experience of boarding is not a pre-requisite, candidates must demonstrate a genuine commitment to the mission of supporting disadvantaged children.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 24th October 2019.

Royal SpringBoard is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate must be willing to undergo an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
