Childcare Advisory Teacher – Early Years Foundation Stage

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced, enthusiastic Early Years leading teacher to join the Falkland Islands Education Department as a Childcare Advisory Teacher.  The successful applicant will raise standards of childcare provision, achievement and outcomes for the children of the Falkland Islands by leading a programme designed to develop and improve practice and provision in independent childcare settings.

Salary: up to £41,636 for applicants with 5+ years' experience

Location:  Falkland Islands

Contract type: Full Time

Contract term: 2 to 4 years

The successful applicant will model best practice; deliver training; provide challenge and support, advice and guidance; and coach and mentor independent childcare providers.  The Childcare Advisory teacher will also monitor and inspect providers for compliance with the Child Minding and Day Care Regulations 2018.  

This position requires strong experience, training and knowledge in the Early Years Foundation Stage (0-5 age range). The successful applicant will join a dedicated and dynamic team and will work out of our 320 pupil primary school, situated in the capital, Stanley.  The successful applicant will follow a highly successful advisory teacher who has managed a period of significant change and positive progress in the sector.  A handover period will be arranged with the current post holder to enable a seamless transition.  

This is a unique opportunity to live and work overseas, within a familiar system.

We are seeking to recruit a Childcare Advisory Teacher who:

• has a vision for developing best practice in the childcare settings to promote excellent outcomes for children 

• is a graduate with qualified teacher status (primary) who has completed their induction and has at least 3 years' successful teaching experience in the early years age range

• can demonstrate a thorough recent knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework 

• has excellent communication skills, both verbal and written 

• possesses secure IT skills and has good IWB knowledge

• has the ability to offer training in specific skills including early literacy/numeracy and play based learning 

• has good interpersonal and organisational skills and works well in teams

• can work within and contribute to coaching and mentoring environment

• has the ability to work to deadlines and share expertise 

• has drive and is self-motivated

• has a sense of adventure


We will provide:

• Salary up to £41,636 for applicants with 5+ years' experience

• Eligibility for a 25% gratuity payable upon satisfactory completion of the contract
