Job overview
Skilts School is looking for an inspiring and imaginative teacher who is able to adapt their style of teaching to ensure that learning is fun, practical and creative. The successful candidate would need to be able to demonstrate they can meet the needs of primary aged children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. We are a primary school for 80 boys who have experienced rejection and often exclusion from mainstream education. Our Caring Curriculum which links the new National Curriculum with meaningful learning activities ensures that all children make progress while they are with us. Our aim is to settle children to learn in an environment where basic skills, necessary for the next stage of their learning, are seen as essential to their overall success.
The successful candidate will be working in a highly supportive learning environment where experienced staff support the needs of all. The school benefits from being situated in a rural location where the outdoor areas become very much a part of the classroom environment. We have three minibuses available so that each class group is able to take learning off site. We believe that children need an opportunity to develop social skills in a place where their efforts to change their negative and aggressive responses are praised, all the time and by everyone.
Minimum of 2 years class based experience
It is a pre requisite that all interested candidates take the opportunity to visit the school prior to applying for the post. A guided tour of the school will be offered either individually or as part of a group.
