Class Teacher

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Saltersgate School is situated within the Dalkeith Schools Community Campus and caters for 125 children and young people with a wide range of additional support needs. The school is a non-denominational primary and secondary school whose catchment area extends to the whole of Midlothian. It was built 10 years ago and provides accommodation to meet both the needs of the classroom and specialist subject teachers. The school also accesses the campus facilities consisting of swimming pools, gym halls, fitness suite, assembly hall and outside sporting areas.

The school management consists of a Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers and 5 Principal Teachers, each with responsibility for a specific area of the school and one with responsibility for our Inclusion and Outreach Service. In total there are 97 education staff; 32 teaching staff and 65 support staff, plus a range of health professionals including nursing, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists.

The school has achieved two Eco Schools Green Flag awards and has a significant focus on encouraging pupil activity through the use of bikes.

Saltersgate School has a teaching position available in the school for which we require a primary trained teacher to deliver all of the core subjects to either primary or secondary aged children/young people. Experience of early year’s curriculum and/or early literacy and numeracy development would be helpful in delivering an appropriate curriculum to children who developmentally are functioning between a pre early – 1st level within Curriculum for Excellence.
