Clerk to Governors

£22.50 per hour

Due to retirement, Ratcliffe College is seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Clerk to Governors to provide procedural, legislative and constitutional advice and guidance to the Governing Body on all governance related matters.

Ratcliffe College is an outstanding independent, Roman Catholic, co-educational, day and boarding school with 850 students aged 3 to 18 years. 

As the Clerk to Governors, you will be expected to attend Governing Body meetings, sub-committees, plus other additional meetings for example, exclusions and/or appeals, as necessary.

The successful candidate will provide advice to the Governing body and Trustees on governance, constitutional and procedural matters. Regulations require governing bodies to have regard to advice from the clerk with regard to exercising the governing body functions, namely:   

  • Provide effective administrative support to the governing body and its committees.   
  • Ensure the governing body is properly constituted.   
  • Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements

The successful applicant will claim for the hours worked each month. The School would anticipate that this role will involve around 230 hours per year.

To understand how schools governing bodies operate would be an advantage along with previous experience of similar work.  The role will require excellent IT skills.
