About Columba Catholic College

Columba Catholic College is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school for pre-school to Year 12 students. The college is located in Charters Towers, a mining and farming town 134 kilometres inland from Townsville in Northern Queensland. Current enrolment at the school is 562 students, 13% of whom are indigenous, and 46 teaching staff.

Established in 1998, Columba Catholic College was created when three schools in Charters Towers were amalgamated. These were St Columba's Primary School and St Mary's College (founded in 1876 and 1882 respectively by the Sisters of Mercy) and Mount Carmel College (founded in 1902 by the Christian Brothers). Today the college is spread over these three campuses.
