We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced professional to take on this dual role within our School.
CCF responsibilities, two days per week, term time plus some summer holiday working (approx. 3.5 weeks)
The CCF SSI is a key staff member. The role is to organise and deliver military and adventurous training to all three sections of the CCF and is central to the efficiency of the Contingent. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.
You will be a serving or ex-serving SNCO/Warrant Officer or Cadet Force Adult Volunteer and will have experience of, or an affinity with, working with cadets or young people.
Range and military skills qualifications and experience in the planning and conduct of ranges and exercises are essential, as is a current first aid qualification, although the latter can be updated or arranged for the successful candidate if required. Other military and adventurous training qualifications are desirable but not essential.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative operator and will demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm for continuing his / her military association to develop young leaders here at Bedford Modern School.
Cover Supervisor responsibilities, three days per week, term time only
Taking direction from the Senior Deputy Head and working within a team you will supervise classes in the event of teacher absence, support other areas of teaching when required and provide exam invigilation.
Applicants will need to demonstrate previous experience of working with children or young people, have excellent oral communication skills and be able to supervise and manage groups of children and young people with confidence.
Work is allocated on a daily basis, therefore, a flexible can do approach is essential, together with the ability to adapt to changing situations and prioritise your workload in a busy School environment.

Bedford is a lively, dynamic place to live and work. The town is a former market town, and enjoys some fine historic buildings dating back many centuries. House property prices in the UK rose quickest in the East of England last year, but there are still three bedroom houses available for under £250,000 – something rare for a town so close to London as mentioned. There are plans for a connecting train line to be re-established linking Cambridge to Oxford with Bedford the mid-way point, which will only surely increase the value of Bedford property in the coming years and increase the town’s connectivity to the south-east of England and London.
At Bedford Modern School there is a wide and varied curriculum that is responsive to the needs of students and parents. The facilities are excellent: a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, faculties clustered throughout the School and extensive and impressive sports facilities.
