Sandringham School is a high performing and extremely popular Outstanding School situated in the picturesque city of Saint Albans, conveniently located just 20 minutes by train from London. Sandringham is one of the three lead schools for the Alban Teaching School Alliance (ATSA) and we have recently been designated as one of 23 National Computing Hubs.
A Computing Hub is a school or college contracted by STEM Learning on behalf of The National Centre for Computing Education as part of the NCCE Computing Hub Network. Computing Hubs are part of an exciting national initiative to train the next generation of computer science teachers.
We will be offering fully funded locally based CPD across Hertfordshire, central Bedfordshire and the northern and central London boroughs. Although the role will be based in St Albans, some travel may be necessary whilst we establish networks and partnerships to deliver the Computing Hub mission in these areas.
The ideal candidate must hold a degree in Computer Science and be interested in leading professional learning opportunities for teachers across the ATSA and supporting secondary school teachers to improve subject knowledge in Computer Science. Recent teaching experience and current working knowledge of examination specifications in Computer Science are essential. Experience in leading others, building relationships and networks, influencing others to invest in their professional development will be helpful. The Hub will be working towards Key Performance Indicators therefore meeting targets and demonstrating drive and ambition will be necessary attributes of the successful applicant. The position is linked to funding and is therefore fixed term for 3 years.
There may be scope to keep abreast of current teaching practices and subject knowledge by continuing to teach Computer Science alongside the Hub responsibilities.

About Sandringham School
Sandringham is a highly popular and oversubscribed school with an excellent reputation both locally and nationally. Over the past years we have been graded Outstanding by Ofsted at every visit to the school. We have been in the 100 top performing non-selective state schools in England for the past 6 years, and are one of the first to gain 'World Class Schools' status. Each year our examination results demonstrate high performance at all levels. Our value added is very high placing the school in the top percentile rankings of all schools nationally. Saying this, there is still plenty of room for improvement and we are working hard to continue to raise standards wherever possible. Sandringham also co-ordinates the Alban Federation which is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training Provider. As part of the AAT we offer an enhanced induction programme for all our NQTS. This programme begins at the beginning of July with our 3 week summer induction programme, which attracts an attendance payment of £2,000 and a contract on the main pay scale from 1st September. Support is provided by subject and senior leader mentors and we offer subject specific as well as general training through ATSA and Herts for Learning events. We are also a National Teaching School and run the Alban Teaching School Alliance with Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden and STAGS in St Albans, offering significant CPD opportunities for staff across a large number of schools. All our teaching staff are provided with a laptop and iPad and as our own admitting authority our admissions criteria now includes a children of staff rule.
We deliver a blended learning environment with every student able to use their own tablet device in the classroom. One of our most important and well-established networks is the BeauSandVer Consortium that provides high-quality post-16 education across Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam Schools. We are an eight form entry school with 1482 students including over 380 in the Sixth Form.
We take every opportunity to develop the campus and are proud of the resources and facilities available to all the young people and staff at Sandringham and have invested over £10m in recent developments.
