A unique opportunity to be a catalyst for social change - Huddersfield New College

For the period of a planned maternity leave we have an exciting opportunity for a teacher of A level Photography.  For the right candidate, the Course Leader role is also available.  The successful candidate will be an inspirational teacher who can demonstrate passion, integrity and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of all our students.  Our standards and expectations are high and you will be challenged to make a significant contribution to our continuing drive for excellence.  In return, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to constantly develop your professional practice, work alongside outstanding and supportive colleagues, and enjoy excellent staff benefits.  If you share our belief that discrimination and deprivation should never limit the quality of a young person’s educational experience or their levels of achievement, we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the teaching team within the Art and Design department which delivers A level Photography alongside A levels in Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Three-Dimensional Design and Textile Design.  In addition, the department delivers the BTEC Level 2 Diploma and Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design.  Results on all courses are above sixth form college averages both for raw outcomes and value added and many are consistently graded outstanding.  The team consists of seven exceptional teachers (one of whom is a photography specialist) who work collaboratively to ensure that students receive an enjoyable, challenging learning experience and realise their full potential.  Photography has a dedicated lighting studio with Pro-Foto lights and the support of a specialist technician.  Students have access to Mac networks which are loaded with the latest Adobe Creative Suite software and have a dedicated laser copier and inkjet printers.  As a new member of staff you will be assigned a supportive mentor and you will participate in the College’s outstanding CPD programme.

Huddersfield New College is ‘Disability Confident Leader’ employer and we are committed to fulfilling the disability provisions of the Equality Act 2010.  We’ll make all reasonable adjustments to enable you to attend the interview, should you be successful. We are committed to equal opportunities and safeguarding young people. Applications are welcomed from all sections of the community.

Please note that references will be requested from your current and previous employers for shortlisted candidates, in advance of interview dates.

The interview and assessment date for this post will be held week commencing 9th November.

The closing date for this vacancy is midday on Monday 2nd November.
