Job overview

You will be a key member of the WMG Academy Coventry team, covering lessons in Key Stages 4 and 5 during staff absence. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise personal learning sessions in Key Stage 4. When there are no staff absences, other learning support duties will be required which will include running small group intervention and mentoring key students. This role will definitely involve a very ‘hands-on’ approach to whole group teaching and consequently we are looking to employ somebody who thrives in a student-facing, forward-thinking environment and is looking to take the next steps in their education career.

Our Ofsted inspection of March 2017 has fully endorsed, across all categories, that we are a ‘Good’ school.

The key academic sponsor of both academies is the University of Warwick. The Coventry Academy occupies a brand new building adjacent to the main University campus, equipped with the very latest in design, engineering and information technology. Our relationship with a broad range of local, national and international business partners will allow the successful candidate to link his/her teaching to an applied, employment-led educational environment.

Values and vision

WMG Academy prides itself as being is like no other school, taking a radical approach to education by putting real, business-focussed, practical problems and challenges at the centre of the curriculum. Students are driven to learn by practicality; doing things, making things, designing things and creating things. Teamwork is a standard practice and core to the academic ethos. In this way students will be much better prepared for the challenges they follow in later life, whether they be in companies, in further education or at University.

Working with the University of Warwick and some of the biggest employers in the region means that WMG Academy has shaped its curriculum from the outset to ensure the training of students with a professional ethos and culture that is in high demand in today’s working world. With a longer working day, high academic standards and business-led dress code, the school’s expectations are explicitly clear to all learners from their first day here to their last.
