Job overview

Aspire Commit Succeed

We are a large, mixed, 11-18 academy with over 300 students in our sixth form.  Due to our increased popularity as a school, we have expanded our roll from 10 to 12 form-entry from September 2018.  Alperton Community School is proud to be an inclusive comprehensive school with a student intake that reflects a wonderfully diverse and vibrant local community. Our most recent Ofsted rating in July 2016 recognised the school as Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management.

The school achieved its best ever set of GCSE results in 2018. The percentage of students achieving five good GCSEs (Grade 4+/A*-C) including English and maths has increased by 22% over the last four years and now stands at 64%. Over the last few years the school has been ranked in the top 5% of schools nationally for student progress at GCSE (Progress 8 = +0.51), and ranked in the top 1% for maths and the top 9% for English. The school has been graded in the highest category “well above average” in both 2016 and 2017 DfE Performance Tables.

We are very fortunate to have a brand new school building which opened in the summer term.  The new building has 83 classrooms with purpose-built specialist Drama, Music, Art and DT facilities as well as 14 Science laboratories, 10 ICT rooms, a Dance Studio, an Activity Studio, an enormous Sports Hall and outdoor MUGA.  Every classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art ICT facilities.  We are very fortunate to have extensive outdoor spaces which are set aside for break and lunchtime activities.

Our school has become internationally recognised following the success of our Art and Textiles teacher Andria Zafirakou who won the $1million Global Teacher Prize 2018.  The school has been shortlisted for the TES School of the Year 2018 and won the TES Maths Team of the Year 2017.  We are one of only four schools in the country to hold the Platinum Professional Development Mark and one of only 100 schools to hold the Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence.

The Role

Cover Supervisor work is excellent experience for those looking to get into the teaching profession or to gain further experience in working with children. We value our staff and provide continuous professional development, as indicated by the Gold Standard of Professional Development awarded and Cover Supervisors are included in Alperton’s professional development programme alongside teaching staff. There are also additional opportunities to develop specific areas to support effectiveness in the role. Any time not spent covering lessons will be used for duties relating to the school development plan.

As a Cover Supervisor you will be required to provide effective classroom cover for students aged 11 - 16 in the absence of the main subject teacher and in line with the Alperton expectations for the quality of teaching and learning.

Your day will involve using the in-house procedures to access cover work, prepare resources to be used in the classroom and dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies/procedures. You will also to contribute to the vast array of the school’s extra-curricular activities we offer to our students across all year groups.

The Person

You will be a proactive individual with a ‘can-do’ attitude who is able to provide engaging and interesting lessons from work set by absent teachers. You will also be able to ensure that work set is adaptable and suitable to meet the needs of students of different abilities who are being supervised. You do not need to specialise in any particular subject area but a high level of literacy and numeracy are essential for this role.

If you are passionate about young people’s education, hardworking, flexible and a forward thinking individual who has good organisational skills and is looking for an exciting new challenge which is highly rewarding, then this role is perfect for you.
