Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Cover Supervisor to support the Academy by providing effective supervision of classes during the short term absence of a teacher. The main focus of such cover will be to respond to questions, assist students to stay on task, maintain order and undertake set activities.  

Duties will include:  

• Working in the Cover team on a rota to manage and orchestrate cover each morning for absent teachers, using external supply teachers if necessary. 

• To ensure that cover is organised for any unplanned absences by allocating teachers during directed time or by booking in external supply teachers. 

• To support individuals and groups of students to enable access to learning when not required for cover. To act as an examination invigilator when not required for cover  


Salford City Academy is a medium sized comprehensive school that lies in the heart of its community, a school of which everyone can feel proud, and a school that is devoted to improving the life chances of all our young people.  

The Academy is based in Eccles, Manchester, just off Junction 11 of the M60 – Manchester’s ring road. It serves a predominantly white working class population and the proportion of students eligible for student premium funding is above national average. The proportion of students with special educational needs is in line with national average.  

Housed in a modern building, the school has outstanding facilities and a learning environment that inspires students to do their best.  In November 2015 the Academy was judged as a ‘Good’ school. 

Ofsted reported that: 

• Students’ behaviour and attitude to learning is good. The academy provides well-structured care and support and is exemplary in its approach to keeping students safe. 

• The Academy equips students to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in the Academy and wider society. Strong spiritual, moral and cultural development permeates through the Academy. 

• The Academy safeguarding procedures are exemplary. 

• The use of secure and shrewd student targets is distilled and displayed across the Academy.
