Job overview

Curriculum leader – Creative Arts (MPR/UPR + SEN Allowance) (A TLR may be payable for the right candidate)

We are a well-established residential SEMH special school situated close to the National Trust village of Lacock, near Chippenham in Wiltshire.  We have been judged as good (Ofsted 2015) and recognize the importance of a multi-professional approach to meeting young people’s needs.  Our ethos is to ensure students achieve their full potential, both academically, socially and emotionally; so they are fully prepared for the next phase of their lives. Through high challenge and high support we aim to provide the best learning experience so all at Notton House make progress and attain.

We are seeking an outstanding and creative practitioner to deliver an excellent learning experience for our students. We are committed to continued professional development on our journey to Outstanding.  We want to inspire our students and help them understand the value an importance of becoming an independent and lifelong learner.

The role of curriculum leader will be an opportunity to develop and grow this curriculum area, making links with our local and MAT schools.  This is a permanent position required as soon as possible.  Interviews dates to be confirmed.

The Creative Arts Department

Would you like the time and the opportunity to lead a Creative Arts Department in a school where creativity is at the heart of its curriculum? Can you inspire and engage reluctant learners and build confidence to enable them to realise and celebrate their talents?  As the Creative Arts subjects are cut across the country, Notton House Academy is investing in Arts education. We seek a creative and innovative Curriculum Leader to develop and lead our Creative Arts Department from April 2018. The Creative Arts Department currently consists of Art and Food Technology, but we have an ambitious vision to increase our participation in arts related activities and introduce new courses. We are looking for a committed and developing leader, who will not settle for anything less than exciting, dynamic and provide excellent opportunities for our young people.

Notton House has a warm, welcoming atmosphere in an attractive location. Our staff are dedicated and committed to providing broad and varied learning experiences in and outside of the classroom. We relentlessly focus on providing students every opportunity to access an individualised, broad and creative curriculum. Our school has 52 students on role, with no more than 5 in a class which allows each student the time they require with resourceful staff who will not settle for underachievement, even in the face of adversity. The successful candidate will be mainly teaching secondary Art and Food Technology, with the ability to introduce and develop photography.

The Curriculum Leader we seek to appoint will have the ability to teach a wide range of abilities from ages 9 – 18. We aim to instil a love of the Arts and a sense of curiosity, as well as the life skills each student needs to progress onto further education, training or employment. We are looking for passion as well as the perseverance and dedication to see an idea through to successful realisation. The ability to plan and teach each of the Art disciplines through practical, ‘real life’ projects with the level of detail each deserves is crucial.

We believe that SEMH needs and a traditional classroom environment should not be a barrier to discovering talents.

Application forms are available from the Eteach website, and also from Notton House School website www.nottonhouse.bristol.sch.uk further supporting documentation is also available on these sites.

Completed applications should be returned by noon on Friday 19th January 2018.  Interview dates to be confirmed.

Informal visits are welcomed and encouraged and can be arranged by telephoning 01249 730407
