We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic technology teacher to join our supportive team.  The successful candidate will hold the skills necessary to inspire, develop and motivate others, and be passionate about all subjects relating to Technology. For the right candidate, with appropriate experience and leadership skills we may be able to offer the post of Curriculum Leader with a TLR. 

You may be required to teach a range of subjects including ideally the courses of GCSE Food, Level 2 Hospitality, BTEC Construction and possibly the subject of Design Technology (KS3-5). This list is not exhaustive and if you are able to bring a breadth of experience to the team that includes Computer Science, Business Studies or ICT then this would be an advantage also.

The ideal candidate should have a proven record of excellent teaching across the ability range from Key Stages 3/4 and ideally KS5 and have a desire to instil a passion for creative thinking with their students. Furthermore, you will be a talented teacher, with excellent academic, practical and vocational subject knowledge; who is keen to forge positive relationships with students to encourage great learning. A resilient character and a strong personal drive are essential to achieve the highest possible standards of student achievement, personal development and well-being.

Callington Community College, a member of  Westcountry Schools Trust (WeST),  is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Cornwall serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Callington has approximately 997 students on record.

Callington Community College was established in the 1910’s. In 1971, the secondary school merged with Callington Grammar School and Delaware Secondary Modern School to form Callington Comprehensive School, changing name to Callington Community College in 2000. In 2001, it converted to academy status.

We truly are delighted to be formally recognised as a ‘good’ school. I really do credit the entire school community with this – the work of teachers in creating and delivering curriculums of excellent quality, the support staff who work tirelessly to ensure children stay the main priority and can excel in a clean, safe, supportive environment, the children whose commitment to learning and each other was so well evidenced over the two days and to parents and carers, who support us relentlessly and ensure that we work together to promote success and opportunity for all.

There are many elements of the report that we are thrilled with, in particular the recognition of us being ambitious, the strength of relationships between staff and students, teachers’ strong subject knowledge and the very strong culture of safeguarding. We are delighted they recognised our commitment to ensuring we are more than just academic successes and that our student leadership opportunities and promotion of extra-curricular events also contribute greatly to what we do.

I genuinely am so very proud of every member of this school community and what it stands for.

There are of course, things to still work on – assessment that is accurate and acute in identifying need and adjustment and ensuring appropriate adaptation occurs for all learners with SEND. Our College development plan highlights four key improvement strands; Curriculum, Assessment, Reading and SEND and we won’t be resting on our laurels. We will still be deeply committed to providing a quality experience that promotes success, affords opportunity, nurtures and provides emotional, academic and social support for every day.

I will finish with one statement that a student made to the inspectors and struck them so greatly that they acknowledged it in their report; “The College is like a shell – It’s the same on the outside but has changed for the better on the inside.” I hope you enjoy reading our report and also feel the same level of pride that we do.
