St Michael’s is a co-educational, Roman Catholic denominational secondary with sixth form in the London borough of Southwark. As of the most recent inspection there were 750 students on the school roll. The school is located close to the banks of the Thames, and the nearest Tube station is Bermondsey on the Jubilee line. In November 2012, the school became an academy managed by the St Michael’s Academy Trust. The sixth form first opened in 2011 and the first students completed their A-levels in 2013. The school is named for the archangel who defeated Satan.

Values and vision
The school is committed to the highest level of achievement for pupils of all abilities and recognises that there are no limits to a child’s potential. The ethos is to facilitate academic and personal success in a rigorous learning community and in a culture which embraces the spiritual values of serving others, tolerance, prayer and forgiveness.
It is the St Michael’s belief that students grow into mature and responsible adults through Learning together in a Catholic community. This is achieved through aspiring to academic excellence and success, acquiring confidence, self-esteem and fulfilment of their individual talent, and developing a love of learning, a love of Christ, and a love of each other
Ofsted
“Teachers’ enthusiasm for their subjects and commitment to their students are very evident. They base their planning on detailed knowledge of what their students have already achieved and teach lessons which help all students to make rapid gains in knowledge and understanding. Teachers ask very effective questions to check regularly on students’ progress during lessons.”
