Job overview

Wycombe Abbey seeks to appoint Day Matrons to join the team to provide support to the boarding House teams, working with girls aged 11-17. This is an important support role within our pastoral teams, working under the direction of the Housemistress, Deputy Housemistress and Senior Resident Matron to create a welcoming, supportive, encouraging and cheerful environment for our girls.

Boarding is the key to our continued success. The School has a culture that stimulates and inspires throughout the day, seven days a week, empowering girls to achieve their best, academically and socially. In our happy and close community, each girl is known, and cherished, as an individual. Consequently every girl's potential, whatever that might be, is explored and fulfilled.

There are two transition Houses: Junior House, for all Year 7 girls (approx. 80 girls) and the Upper Sixth House, Clarence, (approx. 95 girls). In addition, there are nine Senior Houses which each cater for approximately 50-60 girls in Years 8 to 12. The Housemistress has the overview of each girl's personal and academic development, along with the Deputy Housemistress and the House Team, and is key to the success of our boarding ethos. Working within the House Team, the Day Matron is responsible for ensuring a safe and comfortable environment in which pupils can both study and enjoy relaxation.

Reports to: Housemistress and Senior Resident Matron.

Contract: Permanent, term-time only contract. The first three months will be a probationary period.

Hours of Work: Multiple part-time positions are available during Wycombe Abbey Term Time. Wycombe Abbey term time consists of 32 working weeks plus 5.6 weeks holiday and bank holiday pay per annum. We currently have opportunities across a number of boarding houses with different working patterns available:

Butler House: Saturdays, 5.00pm - 11.00pm
Shelburne House: Tuesdays and Saturdays, 1.00pm - 11.00pm
Wendover House: Saturdays, 1.00pm - 11.00pm

Please state your preferred house and working pattern within your application.

Salary: £14.37 per hour (based on a FTE of £28,022).

As part of the House Team, you will help create a warm, homely, encouraging and welcoming atmosphere for girls aged 11-17. Responsibilities include ensuring House routines are followed, encouraging high standards of appearance and personal hygiene, running the House Dispensary and dispensing simple medication, maintaining careful medical records, overseeing the girls' clothes and laundry, helping maintain the tidiness of the House and providing pastoral support for pupils as required. You will also carry out administrative tasks requested by the Housemistress and support the smooth day-to-day running of the House.

This role is ideal for someone looking for a flexible part-time opportunity within a supportive boarding environment. The successful candidate will have positive interaction with and an understanding of the needs of young people, good IT skills and the ability to build effective and supportive relationships with colleagues and pupils.
