We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious and skilled classroom practitioner with a passion for English to lead a strong team to even greater heights. The department consistently achieve outstanding results and we wish to appoint an exceptional individual who has the necessary drive, expertise and inspirational attributes to improve outcomes further. English outcomes at Key Stage 4 are strong with 88% of pupils gaining either English Literature or Language at grade 4 in 2019.  At grade 5 the figure was 69%

The applicant must be able to nurture a passion for studying Language and Literature at all levels of ability and be an individual committed to the highest expectations of attainment for all. The English curriculum is well considered and provides an extremely solid base from which to extend the ‘inspirational learning’ mantra of the school. English classrooms are well resourced with an innovative design to facilitate collaborative and active learning.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills and lead a strong department in a supportive and dynamic school and Trust.

Why William Edwards School?

William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. The Thurrock Teaching School Alliance is based at the school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, life at William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes and we understand and value the importance of pupil-centred education. We are proud of our national reputation for sport, the arts are extremely strong and we are proud to boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh Award cohort in the East of England. We are one of only a small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields.

Following the school’s most recent inspection in May 2019, Ofsted said that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and we are delighted that our recent inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these 'cornerstones' of high quality education remain strong at the school.
