Job overview

 Acorn Park is a Residential and Day Special School offering care and education for students aged 6-19 years with Autism and either Moderate or Severe Learning Difficulties. A post 19 Adult Services provision is also situated on the same site for young adults with autism.


As a Deputy Manager you will be responsible for co-coordinating the group of home’s, working alongside the Senior Care Workers and Care Workers and reporting to the Registered Manager.
This role is to ensure high standards are maintained in the contexts of care delivery and welfare of the residents and staff.


You will also be required to create, monitoring and evaluate the implementation of individual support and activity plans for the residents. An important element is the requirement to lead, manage, supervise and support the support workers and team leaders, through line management and role-modeling, ensuring that Acorn Park's policies are implemented fully.


You will be expected to work closely with the Registered Manager in order to contribute to developing the establishment by participation as required in the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and review of its policies and working procedures.


The process of managing and running the home will be open and transparent, respecting the privacy and dignity of residents; supporting them in their day to day decisions with respect to the care they are to receive, taking into account their wishes and feelings where appropriate.
You will lead, guide, and develop a staff team to deliver a person centered approach to care.


People with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) can present difficult to manage challenging behaviour. This may on occasions necessitate having to physically intervene or remove students from potentially difficult or hazardous situations in line with their agreed behaviour management programmes and Acorn Park School physical intervention policies. All staff working with students undertakes Team Teach training and these are the only techniques permitted to be used. All staff are expected to read and abide by school based policy on behaviour and physical intervention.
