Job overview

DEPUTY HEAD

(Full time 40 hours/week)

Friends Therapeutic Community Trust, more widely known as Glebe House, is a Charity which was established to provide support for young males aged between 15-18, who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours and may have other complex behavioural issues. It provides a year-round children’s home together with individualised treatment programmes of therapy and education, delivered on-site at our Independent Special School and carried out within a therapeutic community setting.  In 2025, we will celebrate 60 years of service.

We wish to appoint a highly motivated and visionary Deputy Head Teacher to work in partnership with the current Head Teacher in the continuing development of our forward-thinking school. This is a developmental role into a future Head Teacher position and offers an opportunity to complete a funded National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Our school is unique – 1:1 or small group teaching; maximum student roll 16; individually tailored learning; bespoke timetable (school holiday dates are slightly different to mainstream settings) and working holistically within a wider therapeutic programme. We have an experienced and friendly staff team. A recent OFSTED Inspection judged the school ‘Good.’

You will hold Qualified Teacher Status and have evidence of Continuous Professional Development and further training in leadership and management. You will be committed to the protection and safeguarding of children. You will also have 3 years’ post qualification classroom experience, with additional experience within a special school or specialist provision; a proven record of exemplary teaching, ensuring good achievement from pupils across the full ability range; experience of managing change; the ability to analyse data and excellent communication skills.

Salary: £34,000

As we are based in a rural location (on the borders of Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex), a full driving licence and access to own transport is required.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer and value diversity; welcoming and valuing applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

An Enhanced DBS will be required.
