Job overview

Following the decision of the current Academic Deputy to focus uniquely on her class teaching, the Headmistress and Directors are inviting applications for ambitious and inspirational candidates for a new post of Deputy Head of Moor Allerton School.

The school is restructuring the senior team to introduce a Deputy Headship with a minimal (or zero) teaching timetable in order to support the Headmistress in driving the school forward in all aspects of academic, pastoral, marketing and financial management.

Moor Allerton is a co-educational, independent preparatory school in the leafy, affluent Didsbury area of Manchester. With two classes of no more than 20 in each year and significant recent re-development and expansion of the site, the school is an impressive canvas on which to make your mark.

Moor Allerton is part of the Alpha Schools Group, which is led by educationalists and whose owner is a former Headmaster. You will be part of a larger community of individually-minded schools, affording opportunities for collaboration, inspiration and challenge from your fellow senior leaders. You will be encouraged through a programme of development, working ultimately towards the leadership of an Alpha School.

If you have:

· Outstanding communication and presentation skills

· A genuine open-mindedness and willingness to be challenged to learn about best practice (understanding of schools as a business)

· Sufficient energy to understand all facets of the school (and where necessary, the commitment to ‘roll up sleeves and DO’)

· Ambition and vision for school development – a drive to perfection

· Ability to motivate and develop staff

· A desire to be challenged towards your first Headship

then we would be interested in hearing from you…

The Closing Date for Applications is 2 December 2018. First round interviews will be held on 13 and 14 of December. Final stage interviews will take place 18 December.

Moor Allerton Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its children and shall conduct a robust recruitment process. All applicants are expected to engage fully with the requirements of this process. Any offer to join the school is made subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check along with clearance on all other relevant safeguarding and child protection requirements.

Moor Allerton Preparatory School is an independent co-educational day school situated at the heart of the vibrant Didsbury area of South Manchester with an excellent reputation for academics and pastoral care. Each year in July, we bid farewell to confident, polite and impressive Year Six children as they complete their time at Moor Allerton and head towards success at the top senior schools in the Manchester area.

“Pupils benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum which prepared them very well for their next stage of education”

Founded in 1914 as an independent preparatory school for boys, the school became co-educational with a nursery and infant classes in 1981. With most pupils living within a five-mile radius of the school, Moor Allerton feels like a school at the centre of its community.

“Positive and nurturing relationships between teachers and pupils support learning effectively…Pupils are confident and self-assured and enjoy their time in school”

Classes of no more than 20 pupils help us to cultivate a caring, family atmosphere in which every child can feel at home, where staff know them all, and all children achieve. We encourage and enable our children to think for themselves, to be confident in their own abilities and to develop into individuals who are caring, confident and independent.

“The school provides a wealth of opportunities for pupils to develop their creative skills across the arts and in music”

All quotes from our latest Ofsted Inspection Report (Nov 2018)

Moor Allerton enjoys a deserved reputation for consistently high academic achievements as well as notable successes in dance, drama, music and sport. We are guided by a simple truth – that only a happy child learns. Only happy children have the confidence to stretch themselves and to explore the world about them.
