Sherborne Qatar Preparatory School is looking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and talented Deputy Head / Head of Pre-Prep who has the necessary skills to engage our youngest learners.


THE ROLE

The Deputy Head (DH) will be directly responsible to the Headteacher and is the person the Headteacher entrusts with the day-to-day running of the School, as well as with the Pastoral Care and quality of teaching and learning of our pupils from Pre School to Year 2.

The role of the DH will be to act as support to the Headteacher in dealing with pupils, staff, parents and Governors. The DH will be part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This will entail regular SLT meetings and involvement with the delivery of the school’s Strategic Vision and Improvement Plan.

The SLT have collective responsibility for the encouragement and maintenance of high professional standards amongst the staff. The role will include maintaining a high profile throughout the Sherborne Qatar community and family of schools, fostering key strategies and strong relationships to promote excellence in the quality of the whole education provided, and working with the Headteacher and staff to sustain and enhance the standing of the school.

The successful applicant must have:

  • A certified teaching qualification, such as B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent from a reputable University in a relevant subject.
  • Experience of the National Curriculum for England & EYFS Framework.
  • Experience of teaching in EYFS and KS1, as well as an understanding of lower Key Stage 2 curriculum and expectations.
  • A strong emphasis and desire to be outstanding in teaching and learning.
  • An understanding of the organisation, operation and demands of a British curriculum school.
  • Pastoral experience in a preparatory school.
  • An outstanding and proven track record of successful middle management (e.g., as a Head of Year).
  • Experience of leading and managing staff.
  • Experience of performance management, observations, appraisals, guidance/support, and the professional development of teaching staff.
  • Experience of assessment, recording and moderation to measure pupil achievement and track progress.
  • Experience of leading change and/or innovation.
  • A high level of IT literacy.
  •  Able to manage and use an MIS (ideally iSAMS).

Sherborne Qatar is the daughter school of Sherborne School, an historic and distinguished British independent school founded in 1550 under royal charter by King Edward VI. Sherborne Qatar is a founding member of the Supreme Education Council’s Outstanding Schools Initiative.

We are now a family of four schools.  We have two Preparatory Schools - one in Al Rayyan and a second in Bani Hajer.
