Job overview

Deputy Head (Pastoral)

To commence September 2019

Following the retirement of the present incumbent, we are seeking to appoint a Deputy Head (Pastoral) to the Senior School at Wycliffe College with responsibility for Boarding and for Pastoral Care.  Wycliffe is a special place to work enjoying superb facilities, a beautiful environment and location, a reputation for pastoral and extra-curricular excellence and an idiosyncratic heritage.

The successful applicant will bring a dynamic and innovative approach to this aspect of the school’s provision, building upon and improving what has always been seen as one of the College’s principal strengths.  He/she will lead a team of nine Housemasters/Housemistresses, line managing each of those people as individuals as well as co-ordinating their activities as a collaborative group and will lead the promotion and safeguarding of the welfare of children in the College’s care, operating as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) not only for the Senior School but also as the principal DSL for the College as a whole.

It is anticipated that the person appointed will be able to demonstrate proven and successful experience in school leadership (e.g., as a Housemaster/Housemistress, Head of Year or Head of Department).  He/she will be expected to be a visible and effective presence within and around the school community, setting an example in terms of interactions with staff, parents and pupils and demonstrating exceptional communication skills and interpersonal sensitivity.  In short, they will be required to champion the pastoral life of the school across a range of forums.

The post-holder will be expected to live on-site in comfortable, 4-bedroom family accommodation located in the heart of the school.

Completed applications to be received by 5 pm on Tuesday 20th November 2018.  Long-list Interviews will be held on Thursday 29th November 2018 and the final Selection Day will take place on Monday 10th December.
