Merchiston International School, Shenzhen is seeking to appoint an exceptional visionary and motivational leader, with a proven track record of working within and leading boarding communities. Reporting to the Head of School the Deputy Head (Pastoral) will provide compelling leadership and vision to ensure the school can continue to deliver in developing our pastoral care, student support and cultures, enhancing the student experience for both day and boarding students. The postholder will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of our pastoral care and student support, whilst ensuring every individual student is valued and encouraged to develop their full potential in all areas of school life.
The position will commence in August 2021, and the initial contract will be for a period of two years.
It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Seniors and the Head of Juniors to ensure the academic experience of all boarding students is developed, strengthening links between the academic and boarding life of the school. The post holder will have a significantly reduced teaching allocation to ensure the strengths of boarding at MIS are developed and to promote and facilitate a diverse range of inclusive, engaging, co-curricular student opportunities. You will play an important role in recruiting boarding students, working with the Admissions and Marketing department to actively promote the opportunities provided at MIS. Communication and meeting with parents is an important part of this role. You will need to have a strategic approach in all aspects of boarding such as considering options for the development of facilities and the deployment of staff.
As the DSL, the Deputy Head (Pastoral) will play a significant role in ensuring the safeguarding and wellbeing of all our boarding pupils.
The successful applicant would be expected to teach a reduced timetable. The Deputy Head (Pastoral) is expected to live on the MIS campus and undertake weekly and certain weekend duties on a rota basis.
