Job overview

Gateway School (part of Bellevue Education Group) is a thriving independent co-educational prep school set in the heart of the Chilterns.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join our friendly team from January 2020.   The Deputy Head will work closely with the Head and other members of the Senior Management Team to build on Gateway’s considerable strengths and contribute meaningfully to its continued success.

The position of Deputy Head is a key role within the school and the person appointed needs to be an outstanding leader with an appetite for innovation. The role provides excellent preparation for headship as it encompasses wide ranging responsibilities covering all aspects of the school.

The successful candidate will, alongside the Head, be expected to fully contribute to the strategic direction of the school.  He/she must therefore be a gifted teacher who is able to demonstrate successful experience in leadership and management to this point in their career and evidence the impact that those initiatives have had on the outcomes for pupils.

In the absence of the Head, the Deputy Head has overall responsibility for the school. The Deputy Head reports directly to the Head.

The successful applicant will possess many or all of the following:

excellent teaching ability

outstanding organisational, leadership, team-working and communication skills

excellent diplomatic skills and the ability to inspire trust and confidence in all dealings with pupils, parents, staff and governors

a positive attitude to innovation and change

humour, optimism and imagination

a meticulous eye for detail as well as the ability to see the ‘big picture’

a grasp of whole school issues and current educational trends and debate, within and beyond the independent sector

good judgement, problem-solving skills and steadiness under pressure

stamina, flexibility and common sense

the capacity to plan carefully and also to think ‘on the hoof’

the unswerving desire to support the values and aims of the School and the needs of its pupils and staff

Please complete the application form and return by email to: pa@gatewaysch.co.uk

Application forms to be received by midday on 1 June 2020

Interviews will be held w/c 8 June 2020

Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and Gateway School reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.

Gateway School is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All offers of employment are subject to references and a Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
