Job overview
Derby Cathedral School is looking to appoint its first Deputy Headteacher as from January 2020. The School opened in September 2018 and is presently heavily oversubscribed in both Year 7 and 8, now totalling 360 students. The school currently employs a total of 31 staff in a variety of administrative and teaching roles, this will rise annually as we head towards our pupil capacity.
The school is the first Church of England Secondary School in the diocese and is based very much on core Christian values, however the school reflects the make-up of the city and welcomes pupils of all faiths and indeed none.
Despite our infancy, the school is proud of its enrichment programme which ranges from a vast number of musical opportunities, foreign visits, sports, languages and homework support. In our inaugural year we finished second nationally in the Spanish Spelling Bee.
Currently located in a temporary site adjacent to the railway station in central Derby, the school is scheduled to move to a purpose built site, under construction on the Great Northern Road in the city. It is expected that the move will occur in the autumn of 2020. When full the school will host 1260 pupils with 360 being Post-16 learners.
The post will primarily focus on all aspects of Teaching and Learning, however, given the senior nature of the post, additional responsibilities will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Derby Cathedral School is part of the wider family of schools within the Derby Diocesan Academy Trust (DDAT), which offers an array of CPD opportunities. Ideally the candidate would have experience of whole school leadership strategies, would demonstrate high levels of organisation and be dynamic in their approach to a rapidly changing school environment.
