Bowden House School is a very special, residential school in East Sussex maintained by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The staff team is skilled in meeting the needs of boys between the ages of 9 – 16+ whose social, emotional and mental health difficulties have impacted upon their education and social development. The team is supported by an Emotional Wellbeing & Intervention Team who target additional levels of support throughout the school day. Bowden House School is judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding in Care (January 2018) and Good with Outstanding features in Education (January 2018). We are proud of these achievements.  The school is seeking to appoint an inspirational leader with skills to effectively manage the day-to-day operation of the whole school team. Our school can accommodate up to 38 residential students and a small number of places for students to attend on a daily basis if they live local to the school. They are looking for a special someone who is passionate about children putting them at the heart of everything they do. You will have a sense of humour with a firm but fair nature, understanding our students’ needs whilst valuing their efforts.  We are looking for experience in an SEN environment and an understanding of the challenges of delivering high quality education and care to students with High Needs. You will be an exceptional leader with the ability to motivate, challenge and inspire, raising standards in all aspects of school life. OFSTED SCHOOL INSPECTION JANUARY 2018—GOOD  

Bowden House School in Seaford, East Sussex provides specialist, weekly, residential education and care for boys between the ages of 9—16+. There is an option for students to attend on a daily basis if they live within an easy travelling distance from the school. All students are subjects of EHC Plans which identify their social, emotional and mental health difficulties and how these have impacted upon their education within mainstream or specialist day provision. 

Bowden House School provides teaching within small, structured classes where there is access to additional support to aid all curriculum areas including an Emotional Well-being Team to aid the learning process. The Care Staff work closely with the teaching staff to ensure that there is a ‘whole school’ approach to learning with a joint structure, involving the students, to devise alternative strategies to assist them in managing their behaviour and therefore improve their chances of successful educational attainment. 

The school provides an Independence Unit for post-16 students who attend local colleges and support from the staff in the school to aid a successful transition into further education, training or employment.  

Bowden House School recognises effort and performance both within and outside the school. A ‘Privilege’ system operates throughout the school and is based upon improvement in academic and social areas of the curriculum with students earning additional activities and agreed rewards. A daily points system also encourages students to earn points throughout education and care time towards a reward of their choice. The school has established positive and supportive links with parents/carers; local authorities and a range of external agencies to provide support within the school and at home, when appropriate.  

Bowden House School offers: a flexible ‘stage and age’ grouping Admissions Policy with:

 •Specialist support to establish and maintain links between home and school 

•Access to the full National Curriculum and a parallel curriculum offering a range of vocational options 

•Access to AQA Unit Awards, Entry Level and GCSE qualifications, Functional English, DIDA (ICT) and BTEC courses 

•External Leadership course and Annual Camps to develop learning ‘outside the classroom’ 

•College links for Year 11 students and full-time attendance for Years 12 & 13including Independence training 

•Outstanding 24 hour care and support with a range of after school activities 

•On-site Therapeutic Counsellor : on-site CAMHS Clinical Psychologist 

•On-site Speech and Language Therapist •Visiting Educational Psychologist 

•Home/school transport for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets students
