Our Context

Garstang High School is an 11-16 co-educational Community Technology College with approximately 750 students and 75 staff. It is situated in beautiful surroundings midway between Preston and Lancaster at the gateway to the Forest of Bowland. Our students come from a diverse geographical area which includes the market town of Garstang and its surrounding villages and hamlets, and the city of Lancaster. We view ourselves as a truly inclusive comprehensive high school, and cater successfully for the varying needs, interests and abilities of our students, most of whom progress to Further and Higher education. A small number (approximately 2%) also have statements for Special Educational Needs.

Our Shared Vision

At Garstang High School we are committed to providing our students with an excellent education which prepares them for life in the twenty-first century.

Our school has a caring and ambitious ethos, with students, parents and staff working effectively in partnership to secure the highest standards of learning and achievement. Students engage actively with the community and enjoy a wide range of exciting learning opportunities, exploring their individual talents in a safe, friendly and technologically advanced environment.

Students leave Garstang High School with the skills, qualifications and self-belief they need to fulfil their ambitions and become valued and responsible members of the community.

Recent Developments at Garstang High School

In our most recent Ofsted report, inspectors recognised the “tremendous” improvements made by the school, and concluded that the school has many good and outstanding features, including its teaching, learning, leadership and management. We believe we now have the quality of staff, students, parents and facilities to provide our youngsters with a first class experience of education, to build on our record-breaking exam results of 2008, and to become an outstanding school.

This is an exciting time to be joining Garstang High School.
