Job overview

Beckfoot Thornton School is seeking to appoint an outward looking, visionary teacher to the role of Deputy Headteacher, from September 2019. You will join a highly motivated positive community determined to create a great example of comprehensive education.

In March 2017, we embarked on an improvement journey; we have transformed the culture of our school. We are now looking for a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ to lead rapid and sustainable improvements to the quality of teaching so that exciting, engaging and challenging lessons leading to great student progress are the norm.

You should have an interest in all aspects of school improvement. You need to be able to demonstrate exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills as well as a clear vision for the role.

The ideal candidate must be excited by, and passionate about improving teaching and learning.

You should have a track record of leading and managing teams to make a real difference to outcomes for students. You must have the ability to build great working relationships with staff, students and parents.

The role will suit a successful senior leader with an aspiration to ultimately progress to headship. The successful candidate will have the ambition to become a great leader, will be a team player and is in it for the long term.

Beckfoot Thornton is an 11-18 co-educational school with approximately 1450 students. It is located in Thornton, on the outskirts of Bradford. The school joined the Beckfoot Multi Academy Trust in October 2016. It did so because of its ambition to create a great school and improve rapidly. The headteacher was appointed in March 2017.

The Beckfoot Trust consists of 10 Bradford schools, all comprehensive in character, that cross mainstream primary, secondary and special sectors.

The Trust is already having significant impact with a number of outstanding schools and we are excited about the potential of a school led model to transform learning environments across our group of schools, so that all of our young people and staff will flourish.

The Trust has a Teaching School that sits at the heart of the organisation.

We pride ourselves on our professional development programmes and care for colleagues.

We hope the further particulars will give you a clear picture of the journey we are on and encourage you to apply for this key post at a very exciting stage in the school’s development.

Visits to the school and Trust are warmly welcomed by appointment. Please contact Sarah Mortimer via email scm@beckfootthornton.org to arrange and for any further information.

Closing date for applications is 25th February 2019 by 9am.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place on 4th & 5th March 2019.

We are committed to safeguarding children and all posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
