Holy Cross College & University Centre has built an excellent reputation as a high-performing college, with consistently excellent results and a sixth form population of around 2,000 that reflects the diversity of our nearby communities. Our thriving University Centre also offers a range of undergraduate courses to approximately 500 students from Bury and beyond. It’s an environment where legacy and innovation co-exist: we remain true to our heritage and values, while continually refining and improving our provision to ensure our students can develop the personal and academic skills they need to thrive in today’s world. With a strong Catholic ethos at the centre of everything we do, we strive to provide an inclusive, caring learning environment which focuses on the development and growth of the whole person alongside academic excellence.
The role of Deputy Principal, reporting to our recently appointed Principal-designate and overseeing the full range of College operations, therefore presents an exceptional professional opportunity. We’re looking for individuals who have already distinguished themselves in their field: who bring a track record of achievement in college or school leadership, a comprehensive grasp of best practice in the sector, and high personal standards. Strong candidates should have a sophisticated understanding of what excellent teaching, learning and curriculum look and feel like, and will also have a firm grasp of the strategies, systems, and management approaches required to sustain it.
It’s a visible and demanding role: you’ll be expected to continue our recent exciting journey of rapid improvement, to inspire and support College leadership at the highest levels, and build strong relationships with staff, while never losing touch with the vital experience of each of our learners. It demands the ability to win confidence and trust quickly, and to lead with humility, drawing on the expertise and commitment of colleagues to enable our staff and our students to flourish. Whether you’re currently a Deputy in a smaller setting, or an AP in a larger College, experience as a curriculum leader (e.g. Senior Tutor, Head of Department or other relevant leadership experience) will be a definite asset.
This is a role with much to offer: a college that has already built momentum in its improvement journey; staff and governors that are wholly committed to creating a fantastic learning environment; a financially sound organisation that is looking to the future with confidence; and a place where you can make a real difference to people’s lives. Please note that this is a Designated Senior Post, and it is therefore an essential requirement that you are a practising Catholic, as defined in the document 'Christ at the Centre’ by Mgr. Marcus Stock.
Closing date: 6th April 2020.
