Required to start in September 2018

We are currently seeking   an energetic and experienced Design and Technology Technician, to provide the   highest standards of technical support and day to day assistance to our busy   Design Technology team.

The role is integral to   the effective operation of the department and will entail support in the popular   subject areas of resistant materials and product design. You will be required   to prepare for practical lessons, support teaching staff and students across   all key stages with the use of all machinery including saws, drills and also   use of laser cutters.

This hands-on role will  provide you with an opportunity to showcase your creative flair and pass on   your skills and expertise to young students; providing them with the tools to  help fulfill their career ambitions in engineering or design.

You will prepare materials, machinery, equipment, components, resources, tools and fixtures for focused demonstrations, and ensure that all hand tools are available and   in good, safe condition. You will also be responsible for ensuring the  maintenance of the machines is up to date and ensure that Health and Safety requirements are met under the direction of the school.

What we are looking for:

  • Excellent, relevant technical skills, and experience of working with a range of DT equipment and resources
  • The ability to encourage and inspire young people to achieve, and an understanding of the importance of students achieving their full potential
  • The ability to work with initiative and commitment, under general guidance of the subject teacher.
  • Relevant and current health and safety training and qualifications.
  • A background in construction, engineering, electronics and/or “design & make” would be an advantage. Knowledge and experience of the range of machinery usually found in school workshops would be preferable.

We pride ourselves in   offering a wealth of development opportunities and will ensure the successful   candidate receives a comprehensive induction. We also offer a range of benefits which include the local government   pension scheme, cycle to work and childcare voucher schemes, discounted gym   membership, free parking and an employee discount scheme and a commitment to staff wellbeing and recognition initiatives through  our wellbeing committee.

Caludon Castle has a   great deal to be proud of, with super facilities, a relentless focus on   excellence and a desire to continuously improve. If you have the passion and determination   to be valued part of our team, we would love to hear from you.

Ofsted report

“Teaching is good across the academy overall and in English, drama, music; history and science inspectors saw evidence of outstanding teaching over time. Teachers are using the academy’s new assessment system effectively to plan lessons that meet the needs of pupils well. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a strength in the academy. Pupils in the main school and learners in the sixth form have an excellent understanding of the wider world, their responsibilities as future citizens and the importance of respect and tolerance. Behaviour is good in lessons and around the academy because the expectations of leaders and teachers are high. Pupils arrive at lessons keen to learn.”
