Job overview

Our vision for Marsden Heights is to be the school of choice for our students, a school at the heart of its community. With the second lowest APS in Lancashire, our children need highly effective and reflective practitioners to support us on our journey to outstanding.

The D&T department is a highly successful team of four full-time teachers and a technician. The staff teach Resistant Materials, Textiles and Food at KS3 and GCSE DT, GCSE Textiles and Hospitality & Catering at KS4. The team works collaboratively and creatively to share good practice, both within the department and across college as a whole, contributing regularly to whole college professional practice sessions. Being a BSF school, we are very well-resourced with technology and equipment which enables us to deliver an exciting and creative curriculum. 

We are looking for someone who can support the development of this exciting and challenging subject. If you are interested in joining this forward-thinking team and you have the skills and qualities required, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Marsden Heights Community College is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school without sixth form situated in Nelson, Lancashire. It is a community state school. An average-sized secondary school, Marsden Heights will provide 1,050 places for pupils aged 11-16, when fully subscribed.

Marsden Heights was founded in September 2006 as a result of the government’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) school investment programme.

Marsden Heights describes itself as a learning community, and prides itself on allowing its students to reach ambitious goals, be that academically, personally or socially. There is a focus on helping children develop into independent learners to prepare them for future life as responsible citizens, and on giving pupils a healthy combination of challenges and rewards.

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum. It also makes use of the STAR learning programme, which stands for "solo, team, adventurous and reflective learner", and prepares students for different types of learning.  Marsden Heights believes this kind of creative learning helps students build skills, techniques and disciplines essential for life after, as well as during, school.
