Job overview

If you offer leadership, creativity and a clear vision of what fundraising and development can achieve, this key role offers an exciting opportunity to develop and lead an ambitious fundraising strategy at Emanuel School.

This is an opportunity for a self-starting and ambitious individual – someone who would thrive on motivating and inspiring charitable giving within the school community. As Development Director, you will join the organisation at an exciting time. A positive platform of warm relationships with donors, alumni and the wider school community has been established, with excellent support established for bursaries and outreach activities. In the year ahead, you will have the opportunity to establish and roll out transformational capital building campaigns, as well as build upon the revenue streams already in place.

You will be responsible for managing all aspects of fundraising, alumni relations and development at Emanuel, including regular giving, mid-level and major gifts, legacy giving and events. You will also be responsible for raising significant funds year-on-year to support ambitious bursary and capital projects, with a particular initial focus on major gifts and legacies.

We are looking for an outstanding and influential professional, with the ability to engage with individual supporters, senior decision-makers and major donors.  The confidence and capability to lead high profile campaigns and work closely with potential major donors is essential.

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
