Director for Schools

The Diocese of Truro seeks to appoint an experienced school leader as our Director for Schools. The Director for Schools will lead the school-facing work of the diocese, as we become significant partners for raising standards in Cornwall. We will do this by promoting the Church of England’s vision for education among church schools and the wider school community.

Key areas of responsibility for the role are:

• Promoting the vision for education across the whole of the diocese, including among community school partners

• Engaging with church schools to raise standards including in SIAMS outcomes

• Leading the day to day work of the schools team at Church House

This post is ideally suited to an experienced school leader, likely to be a head teacher, who can demonstrate a proven track-record in professional leadership. Much of the work will be in partnership, using rigorous but sometimes indirect mechanisms to promote the vision and improve outcomes for children.

We are looking for someone who can provide effective support and challenge for schools, be creative and bold in their approach, while giving confidence to colleagues including parishes, colleague headteachers, academy trust leadership teams, statutory partners such as the RSC and Ofsted, as well as keeping the Gospel at the heart their motivation.

Applicants must be enthusiastic about the Church of England vision for education, ready to promote this within and beyond church schools.

The Truro Diocesan Board of Finance offers membership of the Church Workers Pension Fund. The employer contribution ranges between 9 – 15% depending on the level of employee contribution.
