Job overview

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is the UK’s educational charity working globally to put the power of computing and digital making into the hands of people. Our work ensures people can harness the power of computing and digital technologies for work, to solve problems that matter to them, and to express themselves creatively. Known for our product — the wildly successful Raspberry Pi computer — the Foundation has developed educational content and programmes that are helping millions of people learn computing and digital making.

Together with two partners we are delivering the government’s new £78million National Centre for Computing Education. The NCCE’s goal is for every child in every school in England to have a world-leading computing education, providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform the way we teach computing and computer science.

Cambridge or partly remote (UK only)

The Director of Computer Science Education will lead a substantial part of the NCCE’s programme of excellence for computing teachers in secondary schools, making a significant impact on Computer Science at GCSE and A level. Working closely with the teaching community, Head teachers, the University of Cambridge and the DfE, the Director of Computer Science will lead a newly formed team to significantly increase the number of certified Computer Science teachers as well as increase student engagement with, and performance in, Computer Science at GCSE and A level.

We are looking for a highly motivated and effective leader with both exceptional computer science subject knowledge and a thorough understanding of the school/FE environment. You will have solid experience of teaching computer science education and will have secured successful GSCE or A level results. You may have supplemented this experience with providing CPD to teachers or examining the subject. You will enjoy leading teams and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders, as well as being adept at balancing multiple priorities. Crucially, you will be passionate about the chance to create a transformational impact on computer science for English education.
