The purpose of this post is to drive forward an ambitious reform agenda to raise standards, reduce the attainment gap and deliver an education system that is a source of national pride and public confidence.
This is a key and challenging role in the Welsh Government’s senior leadership team. Education is Wales is undergoing considerable change that will require strategic and operational leadership working in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
Proven experience of delivering large, complex programmes will be vital and this will have to be done with the added challenge of responding to the medium and long-term impact of COVID-19.
Terms of appointment: This post is a permanent post. It is available to permanent UK Civil Service employees (recruited through fair and open competition) on a lateral and promotion basis. This post is also available on a permanent basis to those who wish to join the Civil Service and to those who wish to apply on a secondment basis.
Work Pattern: This role is available on a full-time basis and job-share basis.
Location: The post holder can work from any Welsh Government Office in Wales, however, there will be an expectation that due to the nature of the work and the need to meet with Ministers the successful applicant will need to work from Cardiff as required.
(In the short term the majority of people will be based at home/working remotely).
