We are looking for an outstanding, well-organised and innovative Director of Learning to join and lead our dedicated and successful English department. The English department achieves outstanding results, with excellent progress at both KS4 and KS5. We prepare our students for the new GCSE by teaching challenging, engaging content from Year 7 onwards. Our KS4 students benefit from our forward-thinking, personalised and collaborative approach towards the new GCSE; our recent results with our Year 11s confirm that this approach works. In 2019, 86% of students achieved a Grade 9 - 4 in English Literature, and 76% of students achieved a Grade 9 - 4 in English Language.

At KS5, the Academy offers IB English Literature, and IB English Language and Literature, providing stimulating curriculum content and the chance to approach English with a truly global perspective. The department is pioneering IB hub days at Westminster Academy to allow teachers the opportunity to collaborate with IB English teachers from across the UK, benefitting from seminars with leading academics and IB educators. Our English department has achieved world-class results at IB, and is proud to have supported students to earn places on English courses at Oxbridge. 

The ideal candidate for this role will be enthusiastic, highly motivated and an excellent classroom practitioner, with leadership experience who is committed to student success and development. Experience of leading a core subject, and planning and delivering the teaching of GCSE lessons is essential. Any experience of teaching post-16 English is also desirable. As Director of Learning you will be overseeing all areas of the English curriculum and progress of its students. The willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities, including relevant educational visits, is also essential. Most importantly, the role provides a real opportunity  to lead a team that is making a difference.
