Job overview

Do you have a passion for teaching that can instil a high level of respect for Maths in your students?  Can you inspire the next generation of mathematicians with the opportunity to teach up to and including A-Level?  Can you involve all ages and abilities in engaging learning experiences and work to help lead a dynamic team?

The Hundred of Hoo Academy has a rare and career-defining opportunity for an exceptional practitioner to join us from September 2019.  The role of Director of Learning for Maths is a brand new role for our academy and warrants a high profile position within the school, and we believe that our offer reflects this.  Overseeing existing TLR holders and all other members of the team, you will be responsible for securing the best possible outcomes for our students.   We expect all of our students to be challenged, to be inspired and to achieve beyond expectation; this will be your focus.

We invest heavily so that staff have ongoing access to weekly high-quality professional development and a curriculum focused on developing conceptual understanding. Our curriculum is underpinned by research on task design, variation theory, concept development and raising achievement.  You would be part of an organisation that will develop your career; we have a fantastic track record and there are numerous opportunities for professional development.

Our successful candidate will receive:

  • A salary commensurate with the profile of the post.
  • Fast track programme to leadership.
  • A reduced teaching timetable.
  • Allocation of leadership days to develop strategic planning.
  • No expectation to take an advisory group in order to develop pupil achievement.
  • Opportunity to work laterally across a number of Leigh Academies Trust schools to benchmark best practice and to be involved in teaching and learning innovation.
  • Opportunity to work with the Trust Director of Improvement within a highly successful multi-academy trust.

We’re keen to hear from you if you are:

  • An excellent teacher with a record of outstanding leadership.
  • Collaborative, building strong professional relationships.
  • Able to motivate and inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential.
  • Energetic and have a ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • Someone who has a measurable impact as an individual teacher and throughout the school.
  • Confident and aspire to senior leadership.
  • Committed to the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the school.

Working with our academy: In September 2011, The Hundred of Hoo converted to academy status and just one year later, Ofsted judged the academy as “good with outstanding features”, recognising the relentless focus and ambition that we have.  In September 2015 the academy welcomed its first Reception class thereby extending its age range to 4-year-old children.  This exciting provision demonstrates the academy’s sense of ambition to serve the community where pupils’ academic journey represents a cradle to university principle.

We are delighted to announce that following a recent Ofsted inspection in July 2018 the academy has been judged 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features in terms of our early years provision and effectiveness of leadership and management.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  As of 1st January 2019, our Trust is comprised of 23 geographically organised academies (11 secondaries, 11 primaries and 1 special) educating over 15,000 students, and employing over 2,500 talented staff.  We also have three further academies in development phase, due to open in September 2020.  The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North West Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training providers and a large teaching school.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We strive to offer a range of benefits that all employees can take advantage of which we regularly review and add to - click here to view what you’d receive as a member of staff with Leigh Academies Trust.

We require all staff within the Trust to complete an enhanced DBS check as part of our on-boarding process in order to safeguard our students.
