Job overview

“Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated.” – Rosalind Franklin

We know our new Director of Science will already live and breathe their subject.

We know our new Director of Science will be itching to take the reins of a committed team of scientists who are all proud to be geeks.

We know our new Director of Science will be eager to identify what’s already working well with our Science provision but will be looking forward to putting their own stamp on things.

If you’re still reading this, could our new Director of Science be you?

You will take a strategic overview, recognising existing strengths before putting your own plans into action.  You will have a team of postholders and leaders-in-the-making who you will empower to carry out your plans.  You won’t be afraid to challenge, because you believe in getting the best out of everyone and taking people with you.  You will be an expert communicator – but you will also know when it’s time to stop talking about things and just get them done.

We have a plethora of professional development opportunities which will enable you to get the best out of everyone – including yourself.  For instance, if you want to take a Masters degree (delivered on our school site by the University of Worcester) we will fully fund it.  Or you might want to take the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders (NPQML) if you’ve not done so already.  Our CPD is nationally-renowned and we have a track-record of exceptional Middle and Senior Leadership training.

But what about us?

As you’re probably gathered by now, we like to say it like it is.  Our systems and policies are designed to cut out all the boring bits.  We don’t do anything that wastes staff time, because it’s so precious.  This extends to everything, including data (we collect the bare minimum), marking (we prioritise getting pupils to act on feedback rather than teachers wasting hours producing reams of red pen) and planning (no lesson plans, ever).

Parents love what we do. It’s why we’re so oversubscribed, with well over 4 times the amount of applications for every place we have.  We offer all three sciences at A level and every member of the team is given the opportunity to teach the full age range if they want to.

We urge you to visit us. There’s a real buzz about the place which no amount of words can convey, so please come to see Barr Beacon School for yourself.

If you are already interested in joining us, visit www.barrbeaconschool.co.uk to download an application form and send it to Lynsey Draycott: LDraycott@barrbeaconschool.co.uk

Closing date: Thursday 21st March

Join an Outstanding team

The word ‘outstanding’ appears a lot in advertisements for teachers – but at Barr Beacon School, it means more. With over 1000 requests for the 252 places available in Year 7 this September, parents would certainly agree. When Ofsted last visited, they merely confirmed what we already knew. Now we are working with two other schools as we help them on their journey to outstanding.

How have we achieved all of this?

Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated as we are. These amazing people work hard – in fact they work very hard – to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can.

Whether they are the most able or or the least able, the most advantaged or the least advantaged, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.

Not surprisingly, there’s a real buzz about the place. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
