Job overview

Director of Studies (& Year 3 Teacher)

April/September 2019

This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious teacher to take on an influential leadership role in a growing school with a forward-thinking approach to individual character development.

Hawkesdown House School is looking to appoint a career-minded and highly motivated Director of Studies to join our creative, forward-thinking and committed team. This is an exciting time in the life of the School as we move from being a boys’ pre-prep to a co-educational prep School, providing a broad education through to the age of 11.

Experience of teaching in KS2 is essential and knowledge and experience of the 7+ and 8+ examination process is highly desirable. Through teaching and facilitated learning, the desired applicant will get the best out of our pupils’ talents and passions for learning in a motivated yet nurturing environment. The successful applicant will also garner the support of the staff and will oversee the smooth running of the School in conjunction with the Headmistress. The successful candidate will have responsibility for a Year 3 class yet will be supported by having a reduced timetable in order to carry out this important, leadership role.

Hawkesdown House School is a Preparatory School for girls and boys in the heart of Notting Hill.  It is extremely successful in securing pupil’s entry into the Preparatory School of their choice. This is a permanent, full-time post and will commence in April or September 2019.

This is a superb opportunity for someone wanting to move into or broaden their experience in senior management. Hawkesdown House School has its own salary scale, which is above the Central London Maintained Scale. A salary at the appropriate point on the Teachers’ Leadership scale will be offered to the successful candidate and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Opportunities for continuing professional development are offered and very much supported.

Hawkesdown House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance along with other relevant pre-employment checks. References will be sought, and we will approach referees prior to interview. We will also validate references by subsequent enquiry.

Salary is highly competitive and dependent on experience.
