Location: Casterton, Sedbergh Prep School

Reporting to: Sedbergh School Chief Operating Officer and Business Development Director

Contract Type: Fixed term

Salary: Competitive, in line with skills and experience

Sedbergh International Summer School is a British Council accredited summer school providing international pupils between the ages of 8 and 17 with the opportunity to improve their English language skills, whilst enjoying a wide and varied programme of activities and excursions. The programme has undergone a complete revamp since 2019, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Sedbergh for summer 2022.

We are now seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced, energetic and enthusiastic  Director of Studies (DoS)/Course Director to be responsible for the design, planning and successful implementation of a comprehensive and thorough EFL tuition programme. The position reports to Sedbergh School Chief Operating Officer and Business Development Director.

The DoS is responsible for all aspects of the planning and successful delivery of the high-quality academic content of the residential course. Fifteen hours of taught English are provided each week and the incumbent will choose the syllabus for the EFL lessons and design the Community Engagement/Active Communication programme as outlined in the ISS prospectus. The holder of the role provides direction, leadership, supervision, support and feedback to the team of qualified English teachers. The DoS plays an important role in the management structure, helping with some pastoral duties and the implementation of all policies and procedures.

As the DoS will be in charge for the full supervision of the courses, the successful candidate must have obtained the relevant training to be the appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead, being the main point of contact for any safeguarding issues that may occur during the courses.

About Sedbergh School

The magnificent location of Sedbergh means pupils can enjoy school life in a safe, healthy and dynamic environment. The opportunities for outdoor activities are almost unlimited - from a walk in the hills to mountain biking, or the calm of fishing to the challenge of caving. While academic study is central for every pupil the experiences of a Sedberghian are not confined to the classroom .

Sedbergh is a School where pupils are presented  with a huge range of opportunity. It is a School which expects its pupils to seize the opportunity or, better, create the opportunity. It is our firm belief that it is much better to try something and fail rather than avoiding something because of the fear of failing. This culture ultimately breeds a positive attitude and greatly increases the likelihood of success.
