POST TITLE: Duty officer

GRADE: £10.40 per hour (Casual)


REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor/Buildings Development Manager 


MAIN PURPOSE: To work under the direct instruction of the Site Supervisor/Buildings Development Manager, supervise and assist external lettings and ensure the facilities are safe and fit for use.

TASKS:


RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To ensure the general security of the school’s premises and grounds (including safety measures in cold weather – gritting), in accordance with the specification of NMAT.

• To ensure facilities are opened on time, set up and clean and tidy in readiness for external lettings.

• To carry out regular inspections of the facilities (including re-stocking washrooms where applicable).

• To be ‘on hand’ for requests by the external lettings.

• To work alongside our Site Supervisor/Buildings Development Manager to ensure our school building is safe and secure.


SECURITY ACCESS:

• To be named key holder for the school premises (for the purpose of the role).

• Routine and non-routine opening and securing of buildings and grounds (including patrolling of premises).

• Regular checking of security devices/systems and setting of the alarm system where provided.

• Clear and salt main paths when necessary. Ensure that all outside areas and paths are free from hazard and debris, e.g. glass, leaves, etc.


HEALTH & SAFETY:

• Ensuring that the school premises and furnishing areas are safe and in good order (refer to the school’s ‘Risk Assessment’ Guidelines).

• To attend appropriate Health & Safety training courses.

• Ensure that areas involved with ‘sickness’ are cleaned and disinfected.

• Ensuring that all cupboards and store areas are kept clean and tidy. Cupboards containing 

harmful substances must be kept in a secure/locked position.

• To hold a level 3 first aid at work qualification.


GENERAL MAINTENANCE:

• Reporting, via the Site Supervisor/Buildings Development Manager, any damage/repairs required as a direct result of/or highlighted by the external letting.  

• Emptying bins on a daily basis. 

• Ensuring that windows and doors are secured before leaving.

• Ensure the facilities are clean/tidy and set up for the next day activities – as directed by the Site Supervisor/Buildings Development Manager.


PORTAGE:

• Moving furniture and equipment around the school premises, as requested.


HEATING SYSTEMS:

• Reporting any failure of the heating system promptly to the Site Supervisor and ensuring that if such failures occur, the correct emergency procedure is initiated to provide heating for the school.



OTHER:

• Participate in training and other learning activities as required.

• Show a duty of care and take appropriate action to comply with Health & Safety requirements at all times.



The post holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to time.
