Job overview

We are looking for an EAL Tutor who understands the importance of nurturing life skills which will in turn support the teaching of the core subject skills. Through a broad education, in a nurturing environment, we hope that our children will become well-rounded individuals, who understand the need to be respectful and kind to others. A child who is happy, enthusiastic and inquisitive holds the perfect platform for them to get the most out of the Bishopsgate experience.

The role

Key Accountabilities

• Assist in the support and inclusion of learners with additional learnings needs/specific learning difficulties (under the direction of the SENCo)

• Raise pupil achievement by working with individual pupils or groups of pupils outside the classroom

• Assist Class Teachers by communicating about pupil support and progress

Line Management

• Responsible to the Headmaster through the SENCo and the Deputy Head (Teaching & Learning)

Teaching and Learning

• Teaching small group and one-to-one sessions

Preparation and Planning

• Contribute ideas & suggestions to aid planning & learning support

• Preparing all learning materials

Recording and Assessment

• Use agreed systems for identifying, assessing, monitoring and reviewing pupil progress

• Assess pupils as directed at an appropriate time 

• Help set targets for raising achievement with class teacher 

• Provide regular feedback to Class Teachers and the SENCo regarding pupil's educational and emotional progress

• Help identify children who would benefit from either individual or small group tuition

• Keep accurate and detailed records 

• Maintain confidentiality

Salary

• Negotiable with the appropriate candidate. Fees are established between the parent and the tutor as this is a self-employed, peripatetic role.
